About

No Meetings Friday

Be an ally! Stick a meeting in the... what??Anyways. Don't have any meetings on Friday. That's the gist of it.

Why?

Why do we want to do this?

You want to make the 4-day work week happen right? That is, for those of us stuck in the 9-to-5 for at least five days a week, you want us to be able to have Fridays off -- so they/we can actually have a real mental break before returning on Monday, so we can spend time with our families, so we can actually engage in a hobby that is not actually a side hustle, so we can try to protect ourselves from the most dangerous organization on earth.

How?

How do I do it?

Just stop scheduling meetings for Friday. Stop proposing Friday as a day for a meeting, and stop accepting invites for anyone who offers you a meeting on Friday. That is, for those of us who set the meeting day, don't have it on a Friday -- simple. If your client/customer wants a meeting ASAP, and Friday is the first available day, then it's no longer available -- they will just have to wait until Monday morning -- sorry not sorry.

Defer Friday meeting proposals until Monday

4-Day

How does this help achieve the 4-day work week?

Remove meetings from everyone's calendars on every Friday, and all the people involved in the meeting no longer have to show up to the meeting -- whether that means showing up to the office, or just donning our Zoom shirts from home. No meetings on Friday means one less reason to have to work on Friday.Instead, we can concentrate on actually getting our work done on Monday through Thursday, and not worry about practicing 'presentee-ism' on Fridays (or on the other work days). We don't have to be disciples of the new religion, Workism. We would rather be there for our children, or even just have time to raise children, or find ways to support one another and have meaningful lives.

What else?

What else can I do?

You can do one of several things -- each has its own level of risk/reward:

  • Start or join a union (you'll probably get fired or at least harassed, and if you're in America, there will be little or nothing that you can do about it)

  • Start actually practicing No Meetings Fridays -- at least, give it a try -- chances are, your clients / customers / service providers / counterparts on the other end of the Zoom / email are thinking the same thing as you -- let's not have any meetings on Fridays

  • Join a full-on 4-day work week campaign. Start advocating for the 4-day around your company (you might get fired or at least harassed)

  • Contact us and tell us your idea(s)

  • Start your own business, possibly as a worker co-op

  • Do anything else you think is fun and creative that will help spread the NoMeetingsFriday.com message
